Ginger, also known as ginger root, is used in Asian cuisine, but also during the cold season and for travel sickness. Our ginger has been carefully dried to high quality standards and cut into manageable cubes. Our ginger pieces are untreated, unsweetened, and unsulfured. With their pleasant spiciness, they are suitable as cough drops or as a snack between meals. The dried ginger can also be infused with hot water to enjoy an invigorating and refreshing ginger tea. The ginger pieces are also a great help for seasickness and nausea.
Characteristics:
- Concentration of aromas:
• Drying concentrates ginger's pungent flavors and characteristic warmth. The spiciness remains, but is often more intense and longer-lasting than fresh ginger.
• Dried ginger has a chewy but often brittle texture, which can vary depending on the drying method. It is sometimes processed into a powder.
- Nutrient content:
• Gingerol: The main component responsible for the spiciness is also retained in dried ginger and has anti-inflammatory effects and promotes digestion.
• Vitamin C: Dried ginger also contains vitamin C, although in smaller quantities than fresh ginger because the vitamin is partially broken down during the drying process.
• Fiber and minerals: Dried ginger also contains fiber, which aids digestion, as well as minerals such as potassium, which is important for fluid balance and muscle and nerve function.
- Taste and texture:
• Dried ginger retains the characteristic pungency of fresh ginger, but the flavor is more intense and concentrated.
• Depending on how it is dried, the ginger may have a tough, almost rubbery texture, or it may become hard and brittle when completely dried.
Uses of dried hot ginger:
- Snacks: Dried spicy ginger can be eaten as a snack, either on its own or in smaller quantities, due to its intense spicy flavor. It can be cut into pieces and enjoyed in a mix with other dried fruits or nuts.
- Teas and beverages: Dried ginger is often used in ginger tea. Dried ginger pieces can be steeped in hot water to create a soothing, spicy tea that can help relieve digestive problems, nausea, or colds.
- Baking: Dried ginger can be used in cookies, cakes, muffins, and other baked goods to add a spicy, spicy flavor. It's a particularly popular ingredient in gingerbread.
- Smoothies: Dried ginger can be soaked and incorporated into smoothies to add a spicy kick. This can be especially refreshing when combined with citrus or tropical fruits like mango and pineapple.
- Marinades and sauces: Dried ginger can be used in marinades and sauces, especially in Asian dishes, to add intense flavor. It can also be added to curries and stir-fries to increase the heat.
- Spice blends: Dried ginger is a common ingredient in spice blends, especially when combined with other strong spices such as cinnamon, cloves, or nutmeg. These blends can be used for baking or in beverage preparation.
- Desserts: Especially in combination with chocolate or honey, dried ginger can be used in desserts such as chocolate candies, pralines or cakes to provide a sharp contrast to sweet ingredients.
- Meat or fish dishes: Dried ginger is also suitable for preparing spicy meat or fish dishes, as it adds a complex, spicy note together with other spices and herbs.
