Goji berries are a popular superfood and rich in antioxidants and vitamin C. They are also called “wolfberry” or “boxberry.”
Properties & Origin
• Origin: Goji berries (also called wolfberries) originate from China and are traditionally cultivated in the regions of Tibet and Ningxia.
• Fruit description: Fresh goji berries are bright red, slightly oval, and have a sweet and sour flavor. The drying process concentrates the flavors, giving the berries a chewy yet slightly soft texture.
- Manufacturing process
• Harvesting & processing: After harvesting, the berries are thoroughly cleaned and sorted.
• Drying: The berries are dried gently – often by sun or mechanical drying – to preserve as many nutrients and flavors as possible.
• Additives: natural, no preservatives
Taste & consistency
• Taste: Dried goji berries offer an intense, sweet and sour taste with a slightly fruity note, making them ideal as a snack or ingredient.
• Consistency: They are chewy, yet pleasantly soft, making them ideal for combining in muesli, baked goods or smoothies.
Nutritional values & health aspects
• Antioxidants & Vitamins: Goji berries are known for their high content of antioxidants, especially carotenoids (such as beta-carotene) and vitamins C and E.
• Minerals & fiber: They provide valuable minerals (for example iron and zinc) as well as fiber that supports digestion.
• Energy content: Due to the natural sugars in the berries, the energy content is concentrated, making them an energy-rich snack.
Allergens & Special Instructions
• Allergen-free: Goji berries are fruits and are generally low in allergens because they do not contain any of the most common allergens such as gluten, milk, soy or nuts.
Possible uses
• Direct consumption: As a snack to put over your bag or for on the go.
• Ingredients in food: They are ideal as an ingredient in muesli, yogurt, salads, smoothies or in baking, where they provide a fruity, slightly bitter accent.
• Tea & Infusions: Dried goji berries can also be used in tea blends to add extra nutrients and flavor to the drink.
Please store in a cool, dry place, away from light and heat.
